Ground and Pound

From The Martial Arts Encyclopedia

The Ground and Pound, or abbreviated, the GNP, is a staple in the Mixed Martial Artist's arsenal. It is type of a ground fighting tactic which involves getting the opponent on his back on the ground by means of throw or takedown, then proceeding to strike viciously at the opponent. In modern MMA fights, the GNP often results in Referee Stoppage, or more often, is used as a precurser to a submission attempt.
